How do you paint cedar?
A good rule of thumb is to use an oil-based, stain-blocking primer. This ensures the tannins and oils are blocked and won't ruin the topcoat of paint.
Wash your cedar with a low pressure wash, since it's a softwood and can be damaged.
Give it a couple of days to dry before doing anything else to it.
Use an oil-based, stain-blocking primer. Latex is not recommended.
Latex paint as the topcoat is perfectly fine.
Apply by brush and roll or sprayer.
The thing that differentiates it from other types of siding is the hardness of the wood, and needing to use oil primer first instead of latex.
The cedar is tripped back to its original state during prep.
An oil primer was applied , and toward the bottom, you can see an example of the wood bleeding a little bit.
We apply more primer and eventually add its latex paint, bringing it to its final look.
